These terms and conditions outline the framework for editorial services and provide essential information about the working relationship between the Editor and the Client. Terms and Conditions These terms and conditions outline the framework for editorial services and provide essential information about the working relationship between Editor and Client. Payment of a booking fee or full service payment constitutes acceptance and agreement to these terms. For questions or clarification regarding any aspect of these terms, please contact the Editor directly . Last updated: July 2025 General Overview These terms and conditions apply to editorial services provided to the Client (you) by the Editor (Bryson Ann). The Client is under no obligation to offer the Editor work; neither is the Editor under any obligation to accept work offered by the Client. The Editor will provide service(s) as agreed upon and confirmed in writing. The work will be carried out unsupervised at such times and places as determined by the Editor, using the Editor's own equipment. The Client is responsible for keeping up-to-date with these terms and conditions after becoming a Client, and for reviewing them again when booking in new projects with the Editor. The Editor confirms that the Editor is self-employed, responsible for the Editor's own income tax contributions, and will not claim benefits granted to the Client's employees. The Editor confirms she is not VAT registered. The Client confirms they are over the age of eighteen. Payment of a booking fee, or full payment for a service, will serve as confirmation that the Client has read, understood, and agreed to these terms and conditions. Content Policy The Editor reserves the right to decline any project that does not align with the Editor's expertise, values, or professional standards. The Editor will inform the Client of such decisions promptly. If the Client's manuscript includes extreme or disturbing material (e.g., sexual abuse involving minors or animals, incest, or graphic animal cruelty), the Client must disclose this prior to booking. Failure to do so may result in the immediate termination of the business relationship. The Client agrees to pay to cover any work already completed. Editorial Process During the term of the Editor's work, if additional tasks are requested by the Client, or if the word count changes, the Editor may renegotiate the fee and/or the deadline or bill for a separate job. Should the Client wish to credit the Editor within the work, the Client will seek permission from the Editor prior to publishing the Editor's name and/or personal information in acknowledgement sections. The Editor may use the Client's book in the Editor's portfolio and testimonials, unless requested not to do so. Any files relevant to the project are due at least 24 hours before the project start date. Manuscript files must be in Microsoft Word (.docx) format for proper in-manuscript commentary and tracked changes. The Editor adheres to the Code of Practice of the editorial associations the Editor belongs to and strives to provide high-quality services in line with industry standards. However, a small number of residual errors may remain after a line edit, copyedit, or proofread. The Editor does not promise or guarantee perfection. The Client acknowledges that, despite the best efforts of all parties, the final work may contain residual errors. If a live chat consultation is included with a service, this must be carried out within one week of the work start date. Failure to arrange this within this time frame will result in the service being done based off of Client's requests discussed via email. Fees and Deposits Free quotes are provided for all projects based on word count and service type. Quotes are valid for 30 days from the issue date. The Client will pay the Editor the agreed fee, as discussed in writing. A 25% booking fee will be required for full manuscripts. Booking fees are non-refundable. The booking fee will be taken off the Client's final invoice. The remainder of the fee is payable when the work is complete. Booking fees are due within 3 days of the Client receiving the invoice. The Editor cannot guarantee the spot in the Editor's schedule until the Client pays the booking fee. Fees for partial manuscripts and shorter services are payable upfront. These payments are nonrefundable. The project will not begin until the Client has paid the booking fee or made payment in full (depending on the service). If on receipt of the work, or at an early stage, it becomes apparent that significantly more work is required, the Editor may renegotiate the fee and/or the deadline or decline the work. The Editor provides a 5% discount on total project cost for a 3-book series, 10% discount for a 4-5 book series, and 15% discount for a 6+ book series when all books are booked simultaneously with the Editor. Series discounts apply only when entire series booked at project start. If series is cancelled mid-project, remaining books will be billed at standard rates. The Editor provides a 7% discount when the Client books 2 different editing services for the same manuscript (e.g., developmental editing and line editing). For services that include revision follow-up, Editor will provide one complimentary review of Client's revised manuscript based on Editor's initial feedback. Additional revision rounds are available at 50% of the original service fee. These revisions should be sent to the Editor within 2 months of the Editor completing the work. Discounts cannot be combined with promotional offers, and only one discount may be applied per project. The Client's final invoice will be sent upon job completion (where a booking fee was paid). This should be paid within three days of receipt. The Editor will only release files for full manuscript projects when final payment is made. The Editor reserves the right to charge interest and compensation for late payments in accordance with applicable US state law regarding commercial payment terms, with late payments incurring a fee of 1.5% per month (18% annually) on the outstanding balance. Cancellations and Rescheduling The Client is free to cancel or reschedule at any time by providing four weeks' written notice via email. The Editor must acknowledge this notice for it to be valid. If four weeks' notice is given for rescheduling, no new booking fee will be required. The Editor will accommodate a request to reschedule depending on the Editor's availability but cannot guarantee an immediate slot. If four weeks' notice is given for cancellations, the project will be cancelled and the spot in the Editor's schedule released. A new booking fee will be required for any future bookings. Should the Client provide the Editor with less than four weeks' notice of cancellation, the Editor reserves the right to charge 100% of the remaining fee, not including the booking fee. Should the Client cancel while the job is in progress, the Editor reserves the right to charge 100% of the fee, not including the booking fee. Either the Client or the Editor has the right to terminate a contract if there is a serious breach of its terms. The Editor is free to cancel or postpone at any time in the unlikely event of difficult or severe circumstances such as illness or bereavement. The Editor will contact the Client to renegotiate the time frame. If the Editor needs to cancel, or if any proposed changes to the time frame are not suitable for the Client, the Client's non-refundable booking fee may be applied towards another service with the Editor. This credit may be used within twelve months of the original booking. If the Client fails to deliver files on time (at least 24 hours before the start date), the project will be cancelled and the spot in the Editor's schedule will be released. A new booking fee will be required for any future bookings. Copyright and Confidentiality All content delivered to the Editor will remain the property of the Client. The nature and content of the work will be kept confidential and not made known to anyone other than the Client without written permission. The Client agrees not to publicly release edits, editorial notes, resources, comments, or critiques, including on social media, or to other parties, without written permission. The Client is responsible for their own work and the Editor cannot be held accountable for its success, any legal or copyright issues, or negative feedback and reviews. The Editor declares that the Editor is also an author and engaged in creative pursuits outside of providing editorial services. The Editor affirms that all creative work produced independently is original. Any resemblance between the Client's work and the Editor's published or future works is purely coincidental and agrees not to pursue legal action for such resemblances. Data Protection The information that the Client and the Editor may keep on record is governed by applicable U.S. federal and state privacy laws. No more such information will be held than is necessary, at any time, to comply with those laws and with any privacy policy published by the Client and/or the Editor. Still unsure about developmental editing? Developmental editing is best for manuscripts that are complete first drafts needing big-picture guidance on story structure, character development, pacing, and overall narrative effectiveness before moving to line editing and copyediting stages. This comprehensive editorial approach is particularly valuable for new writers who want to understand fundamental storytelling principles and experienced authors tackling unfamiliar genres or complex narrative structures. Manuscripts with multiple POVs, nonlinear timelines, or ensemble casts particularly benefit from the structural analysis and character consistency tracking that developmental editing provides. While beneficial for all fiction, developmental editing proves especially crucial for plot-driven genres like fantasy, science fiction, mystery, and thriller, where world-building consistency, intricate plotting, and sustained tension are essential. Literary fiction also benefits significantly from developmental editing's focus on character depth, thematic coherence, and narrative voice. Copyediting is best for manuscripts that have polished prose and solid structure but need final technical refinement for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency issues before publication. This editing stage is ideal for authors whose stories and sentence-level writing are already strong, focusing instead on correcting mechanical errors, ensuring consistent formatting, verifying factual accuracy, and catching overlooked typos or grammatical mistakes. Copyediting proves essential for all genres as the final quality control step, particularly valuable for self-publishing authors who need professional-level accuracy and traditionally published authors preparing final drafts for submission. It's perfect for writers who are confident in their storytelling and prose style but want to ensure their manuscript meets industry standards for technical precision, consistency in style choices (like hyphenation, capitalization, and number formatting), and error-free presentation that won't distract readers or editors from the content itself. Proofreading is best for manuscripts that have completed all other editing stages and are in their final, formatted form, needing only a last review to catch any remaining typos, formatting inconsistencies, or minor errors that may have been introduced during the typesetting process. This editing stage is ideal for authors whose manuscripts are publication-ready and have already undergone copyediting, focusing exclusively on surface-level corrections like missed punctuation marks, spacing issues, incorrect page numbers, or formatting glitches that occurred during layout. Proofreading proves essential as the absolute final step before publication, particularly crucial for print books where errors cannot be easily corrected after printing and for professional publications where even minor mistakes can undermine credibility. It's perfect for self-publishing authors who have completed their book design and formatting, traditionally published authors reviewing final galleys or page proofs, and anyone who needs that final layer of quality assurance to ensure their finished product is polished and error-free.
